International students

The International Office

Harper Adams has strong links with international businesses and overseas institutions. The College both welcomes students from abroad and encourages UK students to study or spend their industrial placement in a foreign country. Harper Adams attaches great importance to international aspects of college academic and social life. There are many staff (and students) who have personal experience of living and working overseas, and the College has been actively developing links with colleges and universities in other countries.

The teaching at the College is firmly underpinned by research activity, a great deal of which is undertaken in collaborative projects with overseas agencies and institutions. Staff are also encouraged to participate in lecturer exchanges to widen their experience as educators.

In addition, the expertise which Harper Adams can offer is internationally renowned and staff from the college have, on occasion, been provided with funding to extend their expertise to developing nations.

Academic Life

International students attend lectures and seminars alongside their UK colleagues. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students have regular access to English language support classes designed to guide them through UK academic conventions and language use. One-to-one tutorials are also available where support is designed around their individual needs. These are included in the tuition fees.

There is a 2 week pre-sessional program prior to the start of term where international students have the chance to settle in, discover the local area and attend English language classes aimed at preparing them for their course. We strongly recommend that students attend. For details, contact the postgraduate coordinator Kreseda Smith.

Home from Home

Local area

Harper Adams is situated on a beautiful rural campus a few miles from the market town of Newport, which provides everyday shopping & leisure facilities. There are bus and train links to nearby towns and cities and at weekends the college provides a regular minibus service for shopping and links with further onward travel.

Accommodation

Many students live on campus but priority is given to those arriving from overseas. There is a variety of accommodation available and where possible, international students live alongside UK students. For details visit the accommodation pages or contact Rebecca Freer from student services.

Social life

The university college has an active student union that organises events all year round both on and off campus, including sports, visiting speakers, music and parties. The international Society, just one of the many organised clubs, provides additional trips and events for international students to help them see the UK, get to know British culture and make friends.

Harper Adams Institutional Audit

The Quality Assurance Agency is responsible for ensuring that appropriate standards are being achieved and a good quality education is being offered. This is accomplished by reviewing standards and quality, and providing reference points that help to define clear and explicit standards. Click here to read Harper Adams' institutional audit.
